Jerome Boateng is a target for Chelsea

Jerome Boateng is a free agent at the end of the season and Chelsea are keen on landing him

Chelsea are interested in landing Jerome Boateng, who is a free agent at the end of the season, according to SportBild (h/t Metro).

The 32-year-old German has been a rock at the back for Bayern Munich since signing from Manchester City.

Jerome Boateng in action for Bayern Munich

Boateng didn’t have a great time at City but transformed his career after returning to Germany. The 32-year-old was expecting a new deal to extend his stay with the club, however, Bayern won’t be offering him a new deal (h/t Metro).

Boateng will be a free agent in the summer and Chelsea face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham for his signature, according to the report.

Do Chelsea need another experienced defender?

The report adds that we made a move for Boateng in April, however, we ended up signing Thiago Silva.

It will be interesting to see if we make a move again come the end of this season. Silva is already present in the side but signed only a one-year deal which can be extended to another year (h/t Telegraph).

Boateng would provide us with a lot of experience at the back. However, it would make sense for us to sign him only if Silva is allowed to leave.

The German has won several titles with Bayern while Silva has done the same with PSG. Silva had a rough start to his Chelsea career but has put in some impressive performances in recent weeks.
