Impressive Ligue 1 star snubbed Chelsea transfer in the summer

Serhou Guirassy turned down Chelsea transfer in the summer

Speaking with Le Parisien (h/t Express), Amiens sporting director John Williams has revealed that striker Serhou Guirassy refused a chance to join Chelsea in the summer, joining Ligue 1 side Rennes instead.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Stade Laval and spent time at LOSC Lille, AJ Auxerre, 1. FC Koln, before joining Amiens in 2019. Guirassy enjoyed a fairly decent 2019/20 campaign with the club, scoring nine goals in 23 matches.

However, the 24-year-old decided to stay put in France, joining Ligue 1 side Rennes. And now, Amiens’ director Williams has revealed that Guirassy turned down a chance to join Chelsea, as he had concerns over playing time. (h/t Express)

“He refused to go to Chelsea during the last window. He wanted to continue in a club where he was sure to have some playing time and not relive an experience like the one in Cologne where he was a substitute.”

Guirassy has made a decent start to life at his new club, bagging five goals in 13 appearances across all competitions so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)
