Hakim Ziyech closing in on first start for Chelsea
Speaking to the club’s official site, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard gave a positive update on star midfielder Hakim Ziyech.
The Moroccan international was the first capture of what was a summer of massive investment. However, he sustained an injury in the pre-season match against Brighton. This has so far limited his impact at the club.
That could all be about to change soon. Lampard revealed that Ziyech is closing in on his first start for the club.
“Hakim Ziyech is now looking like he is coming close to starting a game with his fitness.”
Ziyech has made three appearances for the Blues since his £36.2million move from Ajax in the summer. All of his appearances have come off the bench.
Timo Werner and Kai Hvertz have both impressed for us since joining the club. The duo have however failed to hit their highs on a consistent basis.
The addition of Ziyech should also make their job easier upfront. With 130 goal contributions in 162 games, the Moroccan was a savant at goalscoring and assisting at Ajax.
The prospect of him setting up goals for our frontmen will also make their job easier. In fact, we got a glimpse of it in the pre-season friendly against Brighton.
Ziyech’s looping cross played a major part in Callum Hudson-Odoi setting up Werner for our goal. With the 27-year-old now nearing full fitness, this could soon become the norm at the club.
