Kai Havertz opens up on adjusting to the Premier League at Chelsea
According to the club’s official site, Chelsea star Kai Havertz has opened up on his difficult introduction to the Premier League.
The German ace joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £72million. Although he is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League, Havertz has scored a hattrick for the Blues in the Carabao Cup.
Although he has started off decently, Havertz admitted that he struggled to get to grips with the English top-flight upon his introduction.
“It was difficult for me, especially because the Premier League is a completely different league, It’s more intense and I noticed that in the first few games.”
Compared to the German Bundesliga, the Premier League is a faster and more physical league. Havertz to his credit has adapted well although he has not set the world alight.
“The intensity in the duels and the runs is much higher. It’s a completely different league and the games are very exhausting.”
Havertz finds the Premier League is a level up in comparison to the Bundesliga. There are no free lunches in the English top-flight and it is a good thing that Havertz is under no false illusions.
Havertz enjoyed a brilliant season in Germany, claiming 18 goals and nine assists across all competitions for Leverkusen.
The attacking midfielder impressed in Germany’s 3-3 draw with Turkey on Wednesday, making two assists.
