Ben Chilwell reports illness after attending a secret birthday party
According to The Mirror, Chelsea star Ben Chilwell has undergone another test for coronavirus after being prevented from reporting for England duty due to illness.
The 23-year-old violated pandemic protocols by attending a surprise birthday party for Blues star Tammy Abraham last weekend. This saw him miss out on England’s 3-0 win over Wales last week.
Thankfully, he tested negative for the virus. He was unable to link-up with Gareth Southgate’s squad for our match against Belgium after falling sick.
FA medics are not taking any chances and performed a second test on Chilwell. If the result comes out negative, he could feature against Denmark on Wednesday.
It is not the first time that England players have embroiled themselves in a controversy regarding the coronavirus. Youngsters Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood were axed from the squad after last month’s win in Iceland
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson believes players get coverage for their transgressions since they are often in the public eye. While that may be true, it does not excuse Chilwell’s actions, especially given his position as a person of influence in society.
Chilwell is one of the club’s major summer signings. Having arrived at the club injured, he had to wait for a while to make his Blues debut.
So far, he has impressed for the Blues. Chilwell has made three appearances for Chelsea, scoring one goal and assisting two more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
