Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz set to face off for the number 10 jersey
According to the Express, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz are set to compete for the number 10 jersey at Chelsea.
The iconic number lies vacant following Brazilian midfielder Willian’s exit from the club. Pulisic, who has been amongst our best players last summer, wore number 22 last season.
He could now be in line for a change. New Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech wore the number 22 at Ajax. Although his number is yet to be revealed, it wouldn’t be amiss to assume that he could be given the 22.
It is notable to consider that Ziyech sported the number 22 in the friendly against Brighton and Hove Albion last week. Timo Werner sported the number 11 in the same game.
While it might hint at their future at the club, it could also be a throwback to the numbers they wore at their previous teams.
Although Havertz hasn’t signed for the club officially, he is inching closer to becoming a Blue. Set to become Chelsea’s record signing, his value to the club will be worth his weight in gold.
The German ace sported the number 29 at Bayer Leverkusen. An upgrade to 10 will be a show of immense faith in his abilities and his role in the squad.
The number 10 is an iconic number in football and is often associated with the ace of the team. Eden Hazard did a fine job of keeping that reputation intact while he wore it.
Some of the other Chelsea stars to sport the number 10 in the Premier League era include Juan Mata and Joe Cole.
