Chelsea on alert as £80m PL star seeks exit from current club

Chelsea on alert as Declan Rice seeks West Ham United exit

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea could have an opportunity to bring Declan Rice back to the Bridge.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is closing in on German sensation Kai Havertz. Once the deal is completed, he is keen to switch his attention to defensive reinforcements.

The 21-year-old initially played for Chelsea as a youth player. His relationship with the club came to an end when he was released as a 14-year-old.

Capable of playing in both central defence and defensive midfield, Rice’s versatility will add much to our team. According to the report, the Hammers star could consider a return to Stamford Bridge.

Despite his importance to West Ham, Rice will not come cheap. In fact, selling him for a high price will help David Moyes’ side bring in a number of players this summer.

The Hammers value their star player at a mammoth £80m. If he signs, Rice will become the fourth defender to sign for the club this summer.

Chelsea have already brought in Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and Malang Sarr. The former two are expected to play a key role while the latter is set to leave on loan.

The prospect of playing Rice alongside Silva is an exciting thought. A veteran of the game and one of the best in the world, the Brazilian could help pass on his learnings to the youngster.

Soon to be 36, Silva is not a long-term option. By the time he is ready to move on, Rice could be prepared to take the mantle.
