As reported by the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is hopeful that new signing Hakim Ziyech will return to action soon.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed an excellent start to his Chelsea career. He played a key role in the Blues’ opener against Brighton and Hove Albion in a friendly game yesterday.
Unfortunately his night came to an early end. Ziyech was forced off early in the second half with an injury. Lampard has since confirmed that he suffered a slight knock on the knee. (h/t Daily Mail)
“He’s got a bit of a knock on his knee, a small twist which we will have to assess. Hopefully it’s not too bad.”
Ziyech received treatment as he stayed down before hobbling off the pitch gingerly. Youngster Conor Gallagher came on in his place.
French striker Olivier Giroud also had to leave the game prematurely with an injury. He required treatment and a bandage for a cut to his head after colliding with Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
With out first game of the season just a fortnight away, Lampard will hope the two stars will recover in time to play a part.
On a positive side, Timo Werner was one of the positives on the night. The German ace scored just four minutes into his Chelsea debut.
Hopfully it will be the first of many as a promising season awaits. Lampard too was full of praise for his young ace. (h/t Daily Mail)
“He was sharp and bright and showed the qualities we know he has.”
Chelsea’s pre-season preparations took a serious hit after eight players were put in quarantine due to an outbreak of COVID-19.
The game against Brighton saw fans return to the Stadium for the first time in six months. 2500 fans were in attendence as the game ended 1-1.
