Rising Chelsea star determined to fight for starting spot despite PL interest

Tammy Abraham courting interest from Aston Villa

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have made an enquiry with Chelsea for Tammy Abraham, but the star striker is determined to stay at the club and fight for a starting berth.

Abraham, a product of the Blues’ youth academy, has had to bide his time to make his name at the first-team level for the club. After loan spells away at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa, the Englishman finally got his chance this past season.

And Abraham seemed to have grabbed his opportunity with both hands, making a blazing start to the 2019/20 campaign. However, fitness problems and a dip in form saw him lose his spot to Olivier Giroud towards the back end of the season.

With Chelsea now signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in a big money move, Abraham will have increased competition for a starting berth at the club.

Aston Villa tried to capitalise on the situation by trying to make a move for Abraham this summer. After all, it was the Englishman’s exploits in the 2018/19 season that brought the Villans back to the Premier League. (h/t Daily Mail)

However, their approach has been met with a rejection as Abraham has his heart set on staying at the club and fighting it out for a place in the starting XI. (h/t Daily Mail)

Abraham’s form may have tailed off in the second half of the previous season. Nevertheless, the 22-year-old enjoyed a fruitful breakthrough season, finishing with 18 goals and 6 assists in 47 games in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Every player will need to contribute if we are to challenge Liverpool for the title. And, the fact that Abraham is willing to stay and fight shows his mental attitude and character.
