Chelsea closing in on Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz
According to German publication Bild (h/t Express), Chelsea are closing in on Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.
This comes after the 21-year-old underwent coronavirus tests on Friday and Saturday, but was absent in preseason fitness tests on Sunday. (h/t Express)
The coronavirus tests are mandatory before he goes on to link up with the German national team. Leverkusen, on the other hand, underwent their first fitness tests of the season sans their golden boy. This could be attributed to him closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge. (h/t Express)
Corroborating the story, Sky Sports journalist Angelo Mangiante claimed that a deal for the player is already done.
Havertz will sign a five-year contract in a deal worth an initial €80m. It could rise to as much as €100m with adds-ons taken into account.
It represents a significant investment in a player who is among the best young talents on the continent.
Mangiante’s views were backed up by fan favourite Fabrizio Romano. The Italian has been spot on regarding Chelsea transfers and his seal of approval should come as a relief for fans.

The Blues have already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to strengthen the attack. The club brought in three players in Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva earlier this week.
