Chelsea hero gives his verdict on the club’s new signings ahead of the 2020/21 season

Ashley Cole expects Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to impress at Chelsea

Speaking to ESPN, Chelsea hero Ashley Cole believes Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner will add a new dimension to Frank Lampard’s outfit.

The Blues stole an early march on their rivals by signing both players ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Chelsea spent over £75million to bring in the duo who are expected to amplify our attacking threat. The prospect of the duo playing alongside the imperious Christian Pulisic is mouthwatering.

Despite being young, Werner and Ziyech have shown their pedigree at RB Leipzig and Ajax Amsterdam respectively. Cole believes age will have no bearing on the positive impact they can have at the Bridge.

“Although the new players are young, they’ve got experience of playing Champions League. They were stars of their team.”

Cole played in some dominant Chelsea sides having some of the best players in the world. He would be aware of the effect effective leadership can have on a club’s fortunes. He has called upon Chelsea’s new duo to step up and be counted.

“They can give that leadership off the pitch and on it as well because we had a lot of leaders when I was a player here.”

Now a youth coach at Chelsea, Cole believes the Blues reverting back to their big spending ways will actually help the youngsters at the club.

The former English international believes the newcomers can make use of their experience to help the youth stars develop.
