Chelsea keen on French U-21 starlet available on a free transfer

Chelsea enter talks for former Nice star Malang Sarr

According to Sky Sports pundit Kaveh Sohlekol, Chelsea are interested in French Under-21 star Malang Sarr.

The 21-year-old is now a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Nice. The youngster has considerable experience despite his age and has made 119 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

Primarily a centre-back, he is also capable of doing a job at left-back. The Blues are already in talks with the player regarding a summer transfer.

According to Sohlekol, Sarr is unlikely to be fast-tracked into the first-team. Chelsea intend to loan out the young Frenchman if they manage to sign him.

Sarr helped Nice to a fifth-placed finish in Ligue 1 last season. The result saw them qualify for the group stages of the 2020/21 Europa League.

The youngster enjoyed a difficult first half of the season where he failed to keep hold of a spot in the starting lineup. His fortunes improved in the latter half as he went on to become a mainstay in the Les Aiglons backline.

In fact, Sarr even went on to captain his side for the away trip to Toulouse, a match Nice won 2-0.

The 21-year-old came through the youth academy at Nice. He made his debut in 2017 at the age of 17. He scored the winner that day and became the second-youngest player to score on his Ligue 1 debut. (h/t Daily Mail)

With Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell also set to cost us considerably, the opportunity to sign a promising young defender for free is something we should look to.
