Premier League newcomers keen on signing exciting 20-year-old Chelsea starlet

Leeds United keen on loaning Chelsea prospect Conor Gallagher

According to Leeds Live, Premier League newcomers Leeds United are keen on loaning Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher.

The 20-year-old has been at the Chelsea academy since 2008. He spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Charlton Athletic before to Swansea City in January.

His performances have caught the attention of a number of clubs, including those in the Bundesliga. Gallagher played a key role in Swansea’s bid to make it to the Premier League. Unfortunately, they fell to Brentford in the semifinals of the Championship playoff.

The 20-year-old finished the 2019/20 campaign with six goals and 11 assists in 47 appearances for both Charlton and Swansea combined. Gallagher looks set for another loan spell, with the preferred option being a Premier League club.

This should augur well for Leeds, who have returned to the top-flight after a long gap of 16 years. A number of Premier League sides are also in the fray including Crystal Palace, Fulham and Southampton.

According to a report by Football.london (h/t Leeds Live), Chelsea are keen to see the player move to a club that employs a similar style as them. Marcelo Bielsa employs an attacking style at Leeds that is more fine-tuned than the one at Chelsea, but reminiscent of one that Frank Lampard is keen to implement.

Playing under the legendary Argentine will do Gallagher a world of good. Although Leeds are keen on a permanent transfer, Chelsea are not ready to sell Gallagher.

However, he might find it hard to break into the Chelsea first-team next season. With Hakim Ziyech and possibly even Kai Havertz on the way, the competition will be high in the Blues midfield.

Lampard has shown he is not averse to playing youngsters if they are good enough. If he keeps up the current trajectory, there is no reason why Gallagher won’t join the Blue ranks soon.

Gallagher now has the opportunity to play in a swashbuckling Leeds side marshalled by one of the smartest minds in the game. A move to Elland Road could prove to be an evolutional experience for the youngster.

For now, a loan move seems to be the best option for all parties involved.
