Leicester City confident of keeping Chelsea target Ben Chilwell

Chelsea in talks to sign Ben Chilwell

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t Express), Chelsea are involved in talks to sign Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old is manager Frank Lampard’s preferred choice as he attempts to shake up his options at left-back. The Blues boss had earlier used both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri in the position with varying levels of success.

With both of them now looking set to move on, bringing in reinforcements is necessary. The player too appears keen to leave and is expected to tell the Foxes of his intention this week.

A deal will not be cheap, with the Blues needing to fork our around £80million for the player’s services. The fact that he signed an extension until 2024 gives Leicester a strong hand in negotiations.

Chilwell’s decision to leave is not just based on the Foxes missing out on Champions League football. It is rather motivated by his personal ambition and where he sees himself in the next 5 to 6 years. (h/t Mirror)

According to the report, Chilwell is keen to play under Lampard. A decision that also helped us snare both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

The Blues boss has seen his reputation rise following a promising first season at the Bridge. Not only did he get us into the top four but also stands on the brink of FA Cup glory.

Things can only get better. It is no surprise that some of our top targets are clamouring to join his Blue revolution.

Playing regularly at the top level at Chelsea should also help him in nailing down a starting spot for England at next summer’s European Championships.

With the Blues also able to offer Champions League football, he will have the opportunity to evolve and grow.
