European club refuse to budge on two key demands in negotiations over top Chelsea target

Bayer Leverkusen refuse to sell Kai Havertz before Europa League concludes

Chelsea have been linked to Kai Havertz who could become the club’s third major signing this summer.

However, if Bayer Leverkusen have their way, we will have to wait until the Europa League concludes. As reported by the Independent, the Germans are keen to keep their star man ahead of the continental trophy’s resumption.

“It is set in stone [that Havertz stays for the games]. There is no new stance.”

Their concern is understandable given the importance of the competition to them. A fifth-placed finish saw them miss out on next season’s UEFA Champions League.

They can however still qualify if they win the Europa League. A task that will be easier with Havertz in the squad.

Leverkusen ‘s sporting director Rudi Voller is adamant that no player will be allowed to leave early under any circumstances. The Germans are also refusing to provide any concession in price following the coronavirus pandemic. (h/t Independent)

“There will be no ‘corona bonus’.”

The report goes on to add that an offer is yet to be tabled for the 21-year-old. Leverkusen will refuse to discuss any deal that is worth lesser than €100m.

Havertz was reported to have been keen to join Chelsea quickly. That now appears to be in jeopardy. The Blues were also keen to secure the German on the cheap. Both hopes have now been dealt a bitter blow. It remains to be seen how Chelsea respond to these new complications.

Chelsea have already completed the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. It promises to be a busy season at the Bridge.
