Chelsea identify Robin Gosens as Ben Chilwell alternative
According to 90min (h/t Sun), Chelsea have set their sights on Robin Gosens after being priced out of a move for Ben Chilwell.
With Leicester City holding out for at least £60million for the England defender, the club have decided to look elsewhere. Priced at £26million, Gosens represents better value.
The left-back, who is also capable of playing in midfield, has enjoyed a spectacular season for Atalanta. He has made 30 appearances so far, while scoring 8 goals and 5 assists.
Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson have failed to cement the position this year and look to be on their way out. This has forced skipper Cesar Azpilicueta to deputize in the unfamiliar position this season.
Lampard is keen to bring in a new left-back. Brazilian star Alex Telles was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. It now appears as if he will instead move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Gosens has proven to be a regular in the Atalanta side that has made it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Italians enjoyed a dream run in Europe’s premier competition before football was suspended in March.
Gosens, 25, came through Fortuna Elten and Vitesse Arnheim’s youth ranks. Having impressed at Gewiss Stadium, he has come a long way since appearing in the Dutch lower leagues.

Gosens may not be a big name in the game. However, he continues to be a steady performer who lets his performances on the pitch do the talking.
Although he could take some time to get used to the Premier League, there is no reason to believe why he will not be a shrewd signing.
