Chelsea veteran on Serie A giants’ radar amidst MLS interest

Roma are keen to sign Pedro on a free in two months time

According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (h/t Sun), veteran midfielder Pedro has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A giants Roma.

The 32-year-old’s contract at Chelsea will run out in two months’ time and there has been no news yet of him extending his stay.

Since joining Chelsea in 2015, Pedro has made 201 appearances for the London club and has scored 43 goals and 28 assists. He played a key role in Chelsea’s Premier League victory in 2017 and the UEFA Europa League triumph in 2019.

Pedro has found appearances hard to come this season

Injury and Frank Lampard’s preference to play youth have limited the Spaniard’s appearances this season. Pedro has made just 18 appearances this season and has played 90 minutes in only eight of them.

Already down the pecking order, his ordeal at Chelsea will only get worse with the imminent arrival of Hakim Ziyech.

The Blues star is on top of Roma boss Paulo Fonseca’s summer wishlist as the Italians continue to push for a Champions League spot. Fonseca believes the veteran winger will enhance his side’s goal-scoring tally and isn’t put off by the player’s age.

According to the report, Roma are already in contact with the Spaniard’s representatives and have offered a yearly salary of £2.7million.

It may not be as easy as it sounds for the Italians. Pedro has been linked with a return to Barcelona while there has also been interest from Fenerbahce and the MLS.
