According to the Daily Star, Chelsea players would rather see their pay deferred than have to deal with an outright cut.
With the Premier League among the organizations affected by the coronavirus outbreak, players have been asked to take pay cuts in order to help see out the crisis.
The Blues would have taken a 10% cut in their wages, similar to other clubs and businesses across the country. However, the offer is not thought to be as high.
Extensive talks have been underway between the management and captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The Blues remain confident that a deal can be reached in spite of the disagreement.
So far, London rivals Arsenal remain the only club to have agreed on a pay cut with their players. The PFA is also in favour of deferred payments and has urged players to stick to the view.
Chelsea will credit season ticket holders for any games played behind closed doors for the remainder of the season. They will also reimburse those who had booked non-refundable travel to the postponed Champions League tie at Munich last month.
Manager Frank Lampard has maintained a neutral stance amidst negotiations.
The Blues have so far been exemplary in their efforts to help the community during the crisis.
Chelsea stars have done their bit as a part of the Players Together charity for the NHS. Roman Abramovich has also done his bit with a string of initiatives from the club including making the hotel available to essential workers.
