Manuel Neuer not keen on making Chelsea switch
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s hopes of landing German legend Manuel Neuer have suffered a blow, with the Bayern Munich star not keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
The 34-year-old German international’s contract is running out at the Allianz Arena. With negotiations ongoing for months, Chelsea was keen on tempting the player to England.
According to Sky Sports, that is not going to happen. Neuer is keen on renewing his contract with Bayern and is disinterested in the English Premier League.
Goalkeeping has been a major source of concern for Lampard this season. Kepa Arrizabalaga has failed to justify the tag of the world’s most expensive keeper. He was also benched in favor of reserve keeper Willy Caballero.
The Spaniard has made a number of high profile mistakes this season. According to the Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Lampard is keen on bringing in a new number one in the summer.
Although we sit pretty in fourth spot, our defence has been guilty of making silly mistakes. The Blues have managed just six clean sheets this season. To put things into perspective, that’s just one more than bottom side Norwich City.
Although he is nearing the end of his career, the capture of Neuer had the potential to be a shrewd signing.
The German ace is one of the finest keepers in his era and also revolutionized the art with his trademark skill. Unfortunately, we will now have to look elsewhere for our new No.1.
