David Luiz is set for a contract extension at Chelsea, according to the defender’s agent Kia Joorabchian (h/t Sun).
The Brazilian has been a mainstay in the defence under Maurizio Sarri and has played 21 games in the Premier League.
The 31-year-old was frozen out by former manager Antonio Conte, but Luiz has been one of our most consistent players under the new boss.
The report adds that the Brazilian wants to extend his stay under the Italian but there seemed to be a snag in the discussions regarding the agent laying down financial terms to the Blues.
However, Joorabchian rubbished those claims and added that the parties are trying to work something out (h/t Sun):
“Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.
“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club.
“I’m sure something will be worked out.”
Luiz has done a great job this season and it is important for Sarri to keep hold of experienced stars. The Brazilian might not be the best defender in the Premier League but his commitment can never be questioned on the pitch.
The Blues seem to be back on track for a top four finish after the win over Newcastle, and we sit just one point behind Tottenham in the league table.
