Chelsea to wait before selling out-of-favour star as La Liga giants sweat over €293m wage cap

Alvaro Morata Chelsea

Chelsea have to wait before they can send Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club needs to sell a couple of players, according to Marca (h/t Express).

Morata has struggled to perform for the Blues since his big-money move from Real Madrid and has wasted several glorious opportunities during games.

The report adds that Chelsea are looking to sign Gonzalo Higuain to ease their striker concerns but Atletico will only complete a deal with the Blues for Morata if they can sell Gelson Martins and Nikola Kalinic.

The pair hasn’t set the La Liga alight since joining the club. The report adds that Atletico need to get rid of the pair and possibly more players to ensure they do not overspend.

The La Liga giants cannot go over their wage cap of €293m and need players to leave before new signings, according to the report.

Morata would not have an easy time in La Liga with the Spaniard having to battle Diego Costa, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa for minutes on the pitch.

However, the Spaniard knows the league well and had a few decent years with Real Madrid before his move to Juventus and then to Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri needs to revamp the attack as quickly as possible with Manchester United breathing down our necks for a Champions League spot.
