ESPN pundit Paul Mariner believes Maurizio Sarri should sign Denis Suarez from Barcelona only as a squad player.
The Daily Star reports that the Spaniard was linked when Sarri was the manager of Napoli, and our manager is a huge fan of the midfielder.
The report adds that Chelsea are linked with a January move for the Barcelona midfielder, however, Mariner believes Suarez isn’t good enough to be a first-teamer under the Italian.
“Sarri’s had him on his radar for a long time,” Mariner was quoted by the Daily Star.
“When he was at Napoli he tried to sign him a couple of times.
“I don’t know why they need another midfield player. It looks as if they’re flushed in there.
“Maybe he just wants to get him in for cover.”
The pundit conceded our manager knew more about the player than he did but didn’t believe Suarez would get a lot of playing time at the Blues.
“I just don’t see how he’s going to get playing time.
“I don’t see it (happening), I’m sorry, no.”
Chelsea are stacked with numerous midfield options with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho more or less guaranteed first-teamers.
We have Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic as the other options for the side.
The Blues have enjoyed a fine start to the season under Sarri and are unbeaten in all competitions. Our next game is against Tottenham, and that will be another test of our title credentials.
