Footballers are all over-paid, soft excuses for athletes. Or at least that’s how many portray them. The reality behind the newspaper stories is hours of hard work through the week both mentally and physically, helping the community via charity events and then playing a hugely important game while being abused by tens of thousands of know it all defenders. For me, they deserve large amounts of money, especially as they are making the club a hefty income through retail sales.
TalkSPORT have put together a list which lists the top 10 footballers in terms of value, and it includes a player who Chelsea fans have got to know over the last few months.
Samuel Eto’o makes the list at number three. According to the reports he has a net worth of around £70m, which was partly because of his mega money move to Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, but his move to the Premier League has boosted his profile somewhat.
He hasn’t lit up the English topflight, but he has impressed me and most of my Chelsea supporting acquaintances.
He has played 30 games this season between the Premier League and the Champions League and has scored 11 goals, which is a respectable return. For me the money isn’t a problem, as long as he continues to pull his weight at the club.
His age means that he might not be round next season, but for now I am happy with his displays.
