Chelsea-linked midfielder remains on market despite release clause expiry

Dani Olmo still available despite release clause expiry

According to a report from Football London, RB Leipzig remain open to letting Dani Olmo leave this summer. The attacking midfielder has been attracting interest from all over Europe, with Man City, Arsenal, and Chelsea vying to bring him to England.

The Spain international recently starred in his side’s Euro 2024 triumph. A graduate of La Masia, the 26-year-old is also linked with a return to Barcelona, who have had an offer expected to be north of £50 million rejected by Leipzig, who are holding out for more.

Olmo had a €60m release clause in his contract which expired on July 20.

Olmo’s current contract at Leipzig, worth €9.43 million per year, is set to run until June 2027. After graduating from La Masia, Olmo moved to Croatia to kick off his senior career, where he plied his trade for Dinamo Zagreb for six seasons before moving to Leipzig in 2020 in a €29m move.

Olmo won’t fix Chelsea

As talented as Dani Olmo is, he is not going to fix the issues that plague Chelsea under the new ownership.

Because, for all their problems, the Blues aren’t short of players, having spent north of a billion pounds in player acquisitions since the summer of 2022.

Olmo during his time at RB Leipzig: 148 games, 29 goals, 34 assists.

The best thing for Chelsea to do right now is sit back, find in-house solutions, and wait for the players they already have to blossom, dipping into the market ever so rarely. Of course, based on their past habits and this summer’s activities, it is a near-impossible prospect, but one hopes for miracles every now and then.
