Chelsea are favourites to sign £35m Championship player; PSR rules could force selling club's hand

Leeds United’s player of the season, Crysencio Summerville, is poised to leave Elland Road for Chelsea

As reported by LeedsLive, Leeds United’s player of the season, Crysencio Summerville could be the biggest major exit this summer as he closes in on a Chelsea move, with Leeds forced to sell one of their valuable assets after missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League in order to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Leeds’s financial position has made it difficult for both the player and the club to turn down a good offer.

With 19 goals and nine assists in the Championship, Summerville is valued at somewhere around £35m following his performances for Daniel Farke’s side this season.

The 22-year-old Dutchman’s departure is highly likely, with major clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle being linked with the Leeds winger to get his signature, according to rumours.

Summerville’s departure has been predicted for some weeks, and even if Leeds had earned promotion to the Premier League, the winger may have left this summer.

Chelsea have been linked with Summerville for several weeks, having identified the Dutchman as a player they can add to their roster without paying the exorbitant fees previously paid by club owner and private equity firm Clearlake Capital.

Enzo Maresca knows all too well about Summerville’s abilities, having seen him close last season in the race for the Championship title and automatic promotion.

Now that the former Leicester City boss is commanding the Blues, the likelihood of an offer coming within the next few weeks from Chelsea has increased with his arrival.

The Dutchman would fit nicely into Maresca’s preferred 4-3-3 style, and the transaction makes even more sense now that the management appointment has been announced.

However, Summerville’s transfer rumours have received mixed opinions among Chelsea fans.

While some view him as an average player for an average price, others have also compared the Dutch winger to Sterling in his prime.
