Brighton boss takes sly dig at Chelsea’s spending and bashes referee after 2-1 PL loss

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea will fulfil their plan of reaching European competition .

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi feels the referee made a poor decision in 2-1 defeat to Chelsea

Chelsea beat Brighton 2-1 in an enthralling encounter to climb to the sixth spot in the Premier League, now just three points behind fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur this season.

If Spurs lose against Sheffield United, Cheslea has the ability to make this season something special instead of just another disappointing one. After experiencing a lot of criticism, Mauricio Pochettino was able to salvage the Blues’ season and extend their winning streak to four games.

Cole Palmer extended his tally to 22 goals after an audacious header in the 30th minute, before Christopher Nkunku doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 65th minute. There was more to come, as Reece James received a red card for his foul on Joao Pedro.

Brighton managed to find the back of the net in the 98th minute, but it was too late for the hosts as the Blues secured a narrow win. After the game, Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi lashed out at the referee and also took a dig at Chelsea’s spending, saying via BBC:

“The referee—I didn’t like him today. I don’t think it was a good performance from him. We have suffered too many injuries this season. We know the level of players at Chelsea and what they have spent over the last two or three transfer markets.”

The referee was unfair towards us as well because when Mykhaylo Mudryk was elbowed, the Var didn’t take any action and continued the game, but during the James incident, the Var took a thorough check before giving the captain a red card. As a manager, you need to speak for both sides because we were also not on the receiving end.

Furthermore, since our board has demonstrated its financial strength and wishes to expand the team with fresh additions, it is not our problem if the other team is not spending on the players at the level that their management desires. It is not appropriate for others to criticise our expenditures as long as we have acted responsibly and not broken any rules.
