Transfer News: Atalanta close to signing Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham
As per Sky Sport Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Mirror), Tammy Abraham is ‘set to be granted’ a transfer move from Chelsea to Serie A side Atalanta.
The English striker is apparently on the transfer list and Atalanta are expected to pay around €40million for him. This would allow them to potentially replace Duvan Zapata, who is courting interest from Inter Milan.
That, in a domino effect, could make Chelsea’s task of signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan a bit easier. Abraham has not found favour under Thomas Tuchel this year.
Ever since the former PSG and Borussia Dortmund manager took over the reins at Stamford Bridge, Abraham has found starts hard to come by. In fact, he was left out of the matchday squads from both of Chelsea’s cup finals last season.
From Abraham to Lukaku?
That is a clear indicator that the German boss did not have Abraham in his immediate plans. If that is indeed the case, then the fee that is quoted above would be a welcome windfall for the Blues if they plan on bringing in new faces.
Lukaku, in that regard, would be a big signing. The Belgian hitman was one of the star players in I Nerazzurri‘s first Scudetto win since 2010 and at 28, is still at the peak of his career.
The former Anderlecht man did not enjoy a good first spell at Chelsea. He spent three years at the Bridge and after not finding a place in their first team, was sold to Everton in 2014.
