If I had a pound for the amount of times I’ve talked about the striker situation at Chelsea, I wouldn’t need to rent anymore. Anyway, with rumours emerging everyday about different strikers wanting in and the same strikers wanting out, it’s difficult to keep a track of everything. But, what is clear is that Diego Costa will don the blue colours of Chelsea next season. Smart business from Jose Mourinho, however, Atletico Madrid want a little something back.
Well, he’s not exactly little but, Diego Simeone is after Romelu Lukaku to replace Costa. However, the Mirror have also suggested that Valencia are ready to table an £18 million bid for the services of the Belgian. Obviously no one can be quite like Mourinho, but if I was him I would definitely seek to loan Lukaku rather than sell him.
I fail to see how Romelu hasn’t proved his worth to be a regular in the first team. Yes, Diego Costa’s signing will prove to be a major factor in blocking game time, but having Lukaku available for domestic cup competitions and the occasional Premier League game will give Mourinho a huge amount of depth.
Maybe the Portuguese boss is looking for someone with a bit more Champions League experience, but that’s why a loan deal with Atletico Madrid will be perfect for him. Not a sale. For a player that has freely scored in the Premier League, while in his teenage years for some of it, certainly has a bright future ahead of him.
16 goals and 8 assists in 36 games is some going for a player in a new team, just 20 years of age for much of the campaign and still quite a raw talent. This came after his 17 goals and 7 assists for West Bromwich Albion the season before. They are some incredible statistics and I really do fail to see why Mourinho is preparing to ship him out of the club, permanently.
