Why Chelsea Should Not Go For Edinson Cavani

published :

At the start of the season most people expected Chelsea to be up there with the best due to the fact that the “special one”, as people refer to him nowadays, had returned to manage the club for a second time and vowed to bring Chelsea trophies this season.

So Mr Mourinho, where did it all go wrong? It went wrong at the start of the season when the only striker that they had brought in was Samuel Eto’o. Now don’t get me wrong Samuel Eto’o was once regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, but his career went downhill after deciding to leave Inter Milan and join the wealthy team Anzhi Makhachkala in a deal which seen him earn £300,000 a week.

The Russian leagues standard of football is nowhere near the quality that Eto’o should have been playing at and I feel that this move made him no favours in his quality. So with the three strikers of Eto’o, Torres and Ba, people felt like this strike force were not good enough to win the premier league this season, and they were right.

Now with the summer coming up, Chelsea have been linked with a host of strikers and have even had a bid accepted for Atletico star Diego Costa. But they have also been linked with Edinson Cavani of PSG after his season of disappointment and unhappiness, the Uruguayan has been linked with a move away from the French club. However I do not think that Chelsea should sign him and here are three reasons why:

1) There are much better options out there for Chelsea to sign a striker such as Diego Costa (if the deal goes through). Mario Balotelli has had a fine season with AC Milan despite the club struggling in the Serie A. He has scored 14 goals in 30 games in the league with a dozen assists to add to that. The fact that they don’t have European football next season will not impress Balotelli and may want a move away from the Serie A club.

2) The price for Cavani will be hugely expensive as PSG bought the former Napoli man for a fee in the region of £56 million so he won’t be going cheap as PSG will want to make some money back from the striker and he is also tied down to a long term contract. In my opinion, I believe that no one should spend more than £35 million for the services of Edinson Cavani.

3) The final reason is, what about Lukaku? The Belgian striker has had two impressive seasons with West Brom last season and Everton this season so he already has experience in the Premier League; unlike Cavani. The Belgian is strong, quick, good with the ball at his feet; excellent shot on him so why not give him a chance first before deciding to buy a striker?
