Chelsea have been unabashed in their spending during transfer windows since Todd Boehly became the owner. The spending has been unprecedented in that time and, despite the sheer number of players they have brought in, they have managed to build a competitive side.
Enzo Maresca has done well with the Blues since he took over at the start of last season. He steered them back into Champions League football and also secured the Club World Cup by beating PSG in the summer. The club have also made some promising additions this summer.
Now, according to Caught Offside, Chelsea appear intent on continuing their buying spree and have set their sights on a talented young attacking trio: Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, Juventus wonderkid Kenan Yildiz and Olympique Lyon starlet Malick Fofana.
Rogers, Yildiz and Fofana
Rogers, in particular, is liked by the Blues’ recruitment team. The PFA Young Player of the Year last season, he showcased his quality with Unai Emery’s side throughout the campaign. He has since become a mainstay in Thomas Tuchel’s England squads.
Yildiz, meanwhile, has continued to make waves in Serie A. The Turkish international is one of many talented youngsters emerging from that nation, and he has been in spectacular form for both club and country. If he continues to develop at a similar rate, the sky is the limit for him on the left wing.
As for Malick Fofana, he is under the radar compared to the other two players, but talent-wise there is no discrepancy. The youngster was linked with a move away from Lyon throughout the summer, but that did not pan out. A move to Chelsea could propel him into the limelight.
Sales and signings
As things stand, Maresca already has a very young squad and the attack is brimming with talent. The likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Cole Palmer, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Estevao are all very young, and Pedro Neto is the only one with some experience.
One thing Chelsea have done very well in recent seasons is sell players for significant fees. This has allowed them to retain their purchasing power. If the Blues do wish to sign any of the trio, some sales will need to take place. Let’s wait and see how things play out in the coming weeks and months.
