Gusto urges Chelsea to look ahead after Brighton loss
Chelsea were on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Friday evening as their grip on the top four was significantly reduced, with Manchester City claiming an advantage later on to earn a 4-0 win over Newcastle United. The Blues no longer have the fate of finishing in the top four in their hands although with a number of fixtures still remaining, it is ruled out just yet.
Malo Gusto spoke to the official Chelsea website after the game and urged his teammates to regroup and look ahead as he said the following.
“The most important thing is the reaction for the next game. We just need to give our best for the next few games. We just have to do better for the next game because it will be important for us to stay in the top four and that’s our target.”
Malo Gusto himself was far from his best self as Kauro Mitoma had his number for the lion’s share of the match before the defender was taken off in the 65th minute. Gusto failed to win a single tackle for the hour and slightly more he spent on the pitch, which is a concerning statistic from a poor display. Nonetheless, the top four remains Chelsea’s only hope for the remainder of the campaign given Liverpool are significantly ahead of them in first place with one hand nearly on the Premier League crown.
Besides being a key target at the start of the campaign, qualifying for the Champions League would allow Chelsea to receive more prize money from the Premier League at the end of the season and also put them in a better position to sign some of their key targets this summer. Their upcoming league clash is no easier as they face Aston Villa next week as Enzo Maresca will hope for his charges to bounce back to winning ways after two successful defeats in all competitions.
