Chelsea has emerged as serious contenders in the 2024/25 Premier League title race, sitting just two points behind table-toppers Liverpool following their impressive 2-1 victory over Brentford on Sunday.
The arrival of Enzo Maresca as head coach has sparked a remarkable transformation in the Pensioners’ performance this season. The Italian tactician’s strategic vision, bolstered by key signings like Jadon Sancho, Marc Guiu, and Pedro Neto, has reinvigorated the squad.
Despite their strong position, Maresca remains cautious about Chelsea’s title prospects this season, emphasizing the need for consistency as the campaign progresses. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s dominance extends to the Europa Conference League, where they remain undefeated, winning all five of their matches so far.
Maresca’s opens up on winning the Premier League 2024/25
Following a thumping victory against the Bees at the Stamford Bridge, Maresca presented his thoughts in front of the media. The 44-year-old clarified that Chelsea still lacks what it takes to win the highly coveted English top-tier football title. Presenting a realistic approach, the former Man City assistant coach admitted the need for further improvement in various departments to further strengthen his point.
“No matter how many games we are going to win, I think we are not ready to compete for the title. One of the reasons why is because I think [other] teams know how to compete for titles. They are not going to concede the goal we conceded. We conceded the goal on 90 minutes, throw-in for us, we conceded a goal. A team that knows how to win titles, that goal they are not going to concede. This is one of the reasons why I continue to say we are not ready for titles, even if you don’t believe me or you think that I say that.”
Chelsea’s left-back Marc Cucurella, who scored his first goal for the club in their 2-1 victory against Brentford, was controversially shown a red card in the closing moments of the game. The referee’s decision sparked outrage in the Chelsea dugout, with manager Enzo Maresca openly criticizing the officiating after the match.

Despite Chelsea’s impressive tally of 34 points, the road to the Premier League title remains challenging. While standout performances from forwards like Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer continue to inspire, the suspension of Marc Cucurella and the recent injury to center-back Benoît Badiashile could pose significant hurdles in the coming fixtures.
Enzo Maresca’s side now shifts focus to their next assignment as they prepare to host Irish club Shamrock Rovers for their sixth Europa Conference League fixture on Friday.
Looking ahead to the Premier League, Chelsea will face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, December 22, in what promises to be another stern test for Maresca’s men. Surely, we can do better than Arsenal.
