Chelsea’s impressive start to the season continued with a stunning 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday. Their dynamic attacking style is beginning to pay off as the team looks increasingly formidable on the pitch.
Leading the charge was their star striker, Nicolas Jackson, who delivered a stellar performance by netting a brace against the Hammers. The youngster’s remarkable form is one of the reasons the club has rewarded him with a contract extension until 2033, cementing his place as a key figure for the Blues.
Adding to the excitement, 22-year-old attacking midfielder Cole Palmer also found the back of the net, proving that he’s more than just a master of ball distribution. His goal was a testament to his versatility and ability to make an impact in the final third with clinical finishing.
This victory marked Chelsea’s third consecutive away win in the current Premier League season, reinforcing their strong start. Amid the buzz surrounding their performances, one of Chelsea’s former stars has heaped praise on the team, even drawing comparisons to Liverpool’s legendary attacking trio of the past.
Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has expressed his admiration for the club’s new, more visibly attacking style of play, which is consistently yielding positive results. The 42-year-old also highlighted the impressive overall performance of the players, drawing comparisons to Liverpool’s iconic trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané.
Commenting on Chelsea’s display on TNT Sports, the former English international opined:
There looked a clear way of playing, there looked like cohesion. From the goalkeeper right the way through, the counter-attacking was exceptional, the way they got in behind. I don’t want to get carried away but some glimpses reminded me of that Liverpool side with Mane, Salah, and Firmino.
Liverpool’s front three under Jurgen Klopp led them to several major honours and were nigh on unplayable on their day. There have been few better attacking trios in England, let alone world football in recent times and Cole’s comment is certainly premature.
The early signs though are pretty good and should the Blues triad go on to achieve anything close to what Liverpool have done, we are in for some special times indeed.
Jackson has been a standout performer this season, with four goals and two assists in the Premier League so far. The Senegalese striker is consistently delivering for his club and has shown flashes of brilliance that hint at a bright future ahead. However, it’s not just Jackson who is making an impact for the Blues.
Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea currently sit third in the league standings, with three wins from their first five matches, earning a solid 10 points. As they prepare to face Gent in the Europa Conference League qualifiers on October 4, the team will be eager to continue their dominant form and progress further in the competition.
It remains to be seen how Maresca will deploy players like Ben Chilwell, whose role in the squad is still under consideration. The manager’s ability to effectively utilize his deep and talented roster will be crucial as Chelsea navigate a busy schedule and aim for success on multiple fronts.
