Crystal Palace eyeing move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah
Enzo Maresca excluded Trevoh Chalobah from his Chelsea squad which travelled to the United States for a pre-season tour. The defender is not a part of the manager’s plans and is currently training with the developmental squad at Cobham. Even after the team’s return to London, his situation is unlikely to improve and it is likely that he leaves the club this summer for newer beginnings.
Telegraph has reported that Crystal Palace are monitoring a move for the 25-year-old, who has been slapped with a £25 million price tag and still has four more years to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
The Eagles see Chalobah as a possible replacement for Marc Guehi, who has been linked with an exit amid interest from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United in recent weeks.
Aston Villa, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be keeping tabs on Chalobah’s situation. He rejected the chance to join Nottingham Forest last summer but given that Enzo Maresca has left him on the periphery for all of the ongoing summer, a move elsewhere could be on the horizon.
The Englishman’s sale would be beneficial for the Blues as he is a homegrown player. As a result, any money that they yield from his transfer will be shown as a pure profit in their accounting and help them keep their net spending within the Premier League’s Profitability & Sustainability Rules.
Whether Crystal Palace or any other interested party is ready to pay Chelsea £25 million for Chalobah remains to be seen, although, for a player of his age and contract length, it is a fairly reasonable price considering the ongoing market conditions.
The west Londoners also need not make any efforts to replace Chalobah as following his departure, they would still have the likes of Alex Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana in the squad.
