Frank Leboeuf asks Chelsea to consider re-signing N’Golo Kante

Chelsea have been busy in this summer’s transfer window as they have already signed five players. The Blues are expected to continue business as usual before the start of the new season.

Before the transfer window slams shut for the year, they have been asked to consider bringing N’Golo Kante back to Stamford Bridge by French World Cup winner and ex-Blue Frank Lebouef, who said the below on ESPN’s YouTube channel, as per Football Insider:

“When I saw the article I said, what? Why don’t Chelsea call him back? The guy is from Chelsea. We don’t want to see him at West Ham, with all due respect, and I think if West Ham can get him, you know, that’s a very good catch because that guy has proven during the Euros that he was still at the top.”

Kante has recently been linked with a move to West Ham at the back of his stunning performances from France at Euro 2024. The Hammers have already commenced talks to grant the Frenchman a return to England.

Julen Lopetegui’s side recently had a bid worth €18 million rejected by Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad though it is speculated that an offer in the range of €30 million could be enough to entice the Middle Eastern outfit to sell Kante.

Despite Leboeuf’s insistence, it does not seem likely that the west Londoners will pursue a transfer for Kante, who is said to be happy in Saudi Arabia and will not aggressively push for a return to Europe this summer.

Chelsea’s newfound strategy of bringing in younger names since Todd Boehly’s purchase of the club from Roman Abramovich is in full swing and Kante’s arrival will certainly hamper the club’s plans, from a sporting as well as financial perspective.

Even if Kante were to have a second spell at Stamford Bridge, it would not be for the longer term as he is already 33 years of age and therefore, the Blues will not be justified in their spending of €30 million on his services.

It would, however, be good to see Kante back in the Premier League, not least playing for a London-based club as he proved to the Euro 2024 viewers that he is very much on top of his game. Only time will tell whether Lopetegui’s side will meet Al-Ittihad’s demands and if Kante himself is keen on another spell in England, however.
