“He never told me why” – Leicester City star’s Enzo Maresca complaint could come as warning for some Chelsea players

Leicester City winger Wanya Marcal opens up on being dropped by Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca last season

Leicester City winger Wanya Marcal opens up about his experience with Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca. The Portuguese player has talked about his lessened playing time in Leicester City in the Championship last year. Leicester City won the Championship title under Maresca and secured their promotion to the Premier League last season.

After several underwhelming seasons, Chelsea have appointed Italian gaffer Enzo Maresca as their head coach to get the club on to the winning track. The manager has an impressive track record with Leicester City, as he led them to win the Championship last year. The West London club believes Maresca can take the club back to its golden days and they are not expecting less than a top-four position under him.

Portuguese winger Markal has now revealed that it is difficult to acquire a spot in Enzo Maresca’s squad. The Leicester academy graduate has struggled under the Italian gaffer to earn a spot in the senior team. He signed his professional contract with his boyhood club last year and he only managed to play eight games for the senior team. He was pushed back to youth club and he spent the major part of the last season in Premier League 2.

“It definitely brought me back down to Earth,”. I didn’t really understand it.

“He never really told me why. Maybe I became complacent throughout that training week or something like that. I just took it on the chin and carried on working.”

Warning for Chelsea Players

Wanya Marcal opens up on being dropped by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca last season

Chelsea manager Maresca has moved quickly with his steps to bolster the squad before the upcoming season. He has already signed six players in the summer transfer window and is also currently active in finding new targets. The Italian has a clear plan of how to work things in the West London club and as part of that he has also tried to offload some familiar faces in the summer from the club. He also signed his favourite midfielder Kiernan Dewbury-Hall from Leicester to add more power to the midfield. Maresca could replicate his tactics and ideas which have helped Leicester to win the Championship.

Chelsea started their pre-season training last week with the players and some players are yet to join after their international duty. The new additions also have joined the club for the training under the new manager. The message from Marcal has put the Chelsea players in dilemma and now they are scared about their spot in his squad. All the Chelsea players are expected to perform their best in the pre-season matches to earn a spot in Maresca’s main squad and the selection process will not be an easy job for the tactician as the club have a bunch of talents.
