A View From The Bridge

Former Chelsea player gives a strong assessment of the Enzo Fernandez situation

Beyond repair? The Enzo Fernandez crisis

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has faced major controversy following his recent racial comments, and former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that the incident has rocked the boat at Stamford Bridge and has rightfully brought the Argentine into the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

We don’t need to describe the whole controversy that is ongoing around Argentina and Enzo Fernandez. Everyone would have read it all by now.

Although the question mark remains in the aftermath, how do Chelsea and Enzo move forward from this? Can they even get past this? And more importantly, can the players move forward from what Enzo has done, and would they forgive him? Well, no one knows the answers to these important questions.

Dressing room dynamite

Can Chelsea afford to keep Enzo?

However, former Chelsea ace Cascarino believes that selling the 23-year-old is the only way forward from here for the Blues. He insists that there is no excuse for what happened.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT, Tony Cascarino said:

“That’s a tricky one to handle. I think Chelsea have got a major decision on whether they actually keep Enzo Fernandez.

“Having players not happy with a guy in the dressing room, I’m not sure there will be many that comfortable with some of the things that have gone on.

“There’s no excuse for that to go out. It’s not going to sit well with the other players is it? I don’t know how you can handle it because there will be players who can’t forgive. There might be some who can move on despite not liking what happened.

“You don’t need everyone to like each other at a club but this is a really, really tricky one. Some players won’t want to move on or make it work.”

It is difficult to see a way forward from here. There are things where you draw a line, and Enzo has leapt and crossed the line by a mile and more.

We will see what happens going further into the transfer window. One thing is certain: there will be consequences to his action, and a Chelsea exit would not be a surprising solution.
