Chelsea still haven't given up on signing highly-rated La Liga youngster currently on Olympics duty

Chelsea are not giving up on signing Samu Omorodion despite Atletico Madrid’s eye-watering valuation

According to GIVEMESPORT reporter Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have not given up on signing Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion.

The Pensioners remain in the transfer market for a striker regardless of having already signed young talents such as Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman this summer. After a move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen looks unlikely to happen, they have switched their focus towards Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion.

Omorodion is currently competing for Spain at the Olympic Games in Paris. The hulky centre-forward came off the bench in Spain’s 2-1 win over Uzbekistan on Wednesday as La Roja got their Olympics campaign off to a perfect start.

As head coach Enzo Maresca is in “love with” the 20-year-old striker, Chelsea are pushing to get his signature before the new season commences. They have not given up on the striker and are ready to revisit a deal, regardless of a transfer looking difficult to thrash out due to Atletico Madrid’s high demands.

As per Ben Jacobs, the Blues have had multiple bids rejected by Atletico Madrid for Omorodion, with none of those offers exceeding €50m including bonuses. Atletico don’t wish to sell the talented striker and are pushing for a new contract that would allow them to insert a hefty release clause, although the Spanish club’s stance could change if Chelsea come up with a €70m offer.

“Chelsea still haven’t given up on Samu Omorodion despite multiple rejected bids, none exceeding €50m including bonuses,” Jacobs tweeted.

“Atleti don’t wish to sell and it may take €70m to change their mind. But Atleti really want Omorodion to sign a new deal and insert a €120m release clause.”

As things stand, there is a huge valuation gap that needs to be bridged if Chelsea are indeed interested in bringing Omorodion to Stamford Bridge. The young Spaniard spent last season on loan at Alaves, where he netted eight goals in 34 La Liga games and impressed with his speed, strength and hold-up play.

Whilst a prodigious talent with huge potential to unlock, it is worth noting that Omorodion has never played a first-team game for Atletico. After another transfer window of spending millions on young talents, it seems unlikely that the Pensioners are in a position to fork out a fee in the €70m ballpark for an inexperienced player at the highest level.

Guiu and Kellyman are not ready-made superstars who will be expected to make an impact and solve Chelsea’s goalscoring problems immediately. We need a proven goalscorer to compete and cover for Nicolas Jackson, and Omorodion—for all the promise he showed at Alaves on loan last season—isn’t the answer, especially at such a hefty price.
