Chelsea priced out of move for in-demand forward with PSG set to pounce

Chelsea’s bid to sign Osimhen comes to an end with PSG in the running

Victor Osimhen has been expected to leave Napoli this summer and it was thought that he would prioritise a transfer to the Premier League. However, England’s interested parties, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been ruled out of the equation after it was revealed that the striker has a release clause worth €110 million.

Chelsea were particularly keen but their financial worries mean they will be unable to come anywhere close to meeting the €110 million price with Napoli unlikely to negotiate a lower amount. With the Blues all but out of the race for Osimhen, Paris Saint-Germain are expected to pounce, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

Chelsea are not expected to be able to afford Victor Osimhen this summer.

PSG boss Luis Enrique remains unconvinced by his current central forwards, Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos, and is seeking a new addition that will help him to continue pursuing an elusive Champions League title for the Ligue 1 side. The French side, funded by Qatar, will be able to comfortably afford Osimhen and offer him an attractive financial packet.

It remains to be seen whether the Nigerian international finally leaves the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer for a Parisian adventure or if he continues to hold out for Premier League interest to fulfil his goal of playing in England. Nonetheless, a different deal between Chelsea and Napoli remains firmly on the cards.

Antonio Conte wants to reunite with Romelu Lukaku at Napoli having produced successful results together at Inter Milan some years ago. The former Chelsea coach will be able to land the ex-Chelsea marksman this summer for a fee nearing €45 million, although it does seem that Napoli initially wanted to get rid of Osimhen to raise funds and create space in their squad.

PSG’s interest in Osimhen is still peripheral but if and when they get the ball rolling for the 25-year-old, a transfer may very well culminate in a matter of days, therefore opening the door to Lukaku’s much-needed Chelsea exit to help them with an injection of funds.
