According to HITC, as per a Football London report, Chelsea have held initial talks with the representatives of RB Leipzig and Spain midfielder Dani Olmo.
Olmo, a graduate of La Masia, has been in the papers lately for his recent performances at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024, which is due to conclude this weekend as Spain face England in the final.
Olmo has a release clause in his contract (worth €9.43 million per year and set to run until June 2027) which is set to expire after July 20.
In the Premier League, Chelsea face competition from Arsenal and Man City for the Spaniard’s signature, though it has also been reported that none of them have yet shown an inclination to actually trigger the release clause.
Olmo is a typical example of a late-blooming player. Now 26, he made his senior debut for Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb back in 2015 after leaving the Barcelona academy and spent five seasons with them before moving to RB Leipzig in 2020.
Of all the issues that can be considered plaguing Chelsea these days, not having enough players is not one of them.
Chelsea have bought many players, many right players, in fact, but the sheer volume of these players and the constant turnover of both them and the coaches have left most of them unsettled, with very few managing to shine through.
Even if new coach Enzo Maresca wants players of a different profile, Chelsea should refrain from making as many first-team signings as they have become accustomed to over the past two seasons, and Dani Olmo is one player they can afford to miss out on.
