According to GIVEMESPORT reporter Ben Jacobs, Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino is scheduled to undergo his Chelsea medical on Sunday in England.
The Blues have been extremely busy this summer with seven new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge after the appointment of new head coach Enzo Maresca. They are also on the brink of completing a deal for Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.
Chelsea reached a full agreement with Boca Juniors to sign defender Aaron Anselmino last month. They have paid £14m for the young Argentinean’s signature, with the player expected to return to Boca Juniors on loan until January. From his official X account, Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Anselmino is set to travel to England on Sunday to complete his Chelsea medical ahead of his possible move to Stamford Bridge.
“Aaron Anselmino will travel to England on Sunday to undergo his Chelsea medical, per @estoesboca_ok,” Jacobs tweeted.
Like multiple Chelsea signings under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership, Anselmino is tipped to sign a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge. The centre-back came through the Boca youth academy before making his senior debut in June 2023. He has only made 10 first-team appearances but has shown enough potential to convince the Pensioners to battle other clubs and snap him up.
Their immediate plan in case Anselmino’s transfer gets closed out on Sunday is clear. The teenager will spend the next six months on loan with his hometown club Boca for regular minutes to continue his development, although the Blues retain the option of calling him at the start of 2025 should they choose to.
Chelsea under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership have shown an eye for talent, and Anselmino’s signature would further underline that. The west London club have an extremely talented defender, who may not bulldoze his way into Maresca’s starting XI due to heavy competition for places within the squad but by the time he returns to Stamford Bridge after spending time on loan with Boca, he hopefully finds himself in a more secure environment.
The Pensioners spending £14m for one of South America’s best defensive talents should be considered as a daylight robbery. We are about to secure our defence for the best part of the next 10 years with Anselmino’s acquisition. Let’s hope he aces the medical tests, signs a long-term contract with our club and returns to his native club for the next six months at least.
