A View From The Bridge

Chelsea are set to open talks with Bundesliga giants for 22-year-old forward

Chelsea set to open talks with Borussia Dortmund for Karim Adeyemi

According to a report from German publication Bild, Chelsea have approached the representatives of Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi over a possible move to west London.

The Blues have been among the Premier League’s busiest clubs in the summer transfer window, completing four signings already. After the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new boss, the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca has received solid backing in the transfer market thus far, as Chelsea looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2023/24 campaign under former manager Mauricio Pochettino. The club are certainly trying to improve the squad further and have now set their sights on Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

Adeyemi had an inconsistent past season with Dortmund, managing only five goals and two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. He was a part of the Dortmund side that lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May.

The aforementioned report claims the Pensioners are planning to hold direct talks with Borussia Dortmund for Adeyemi but face competition from Serie A giants Juventus. Owing to his inconsistent performances at the Signal Iduna Park in the last 12-15 months, the German club are considering offers for around €30 million to let the winger leave this summer.

One of the top talents across the continent, Adeyemi truly announced himself at Austrian side RB Salzburg. His displays in RB Salzburg colours earned him a move to Dortmund in 2022, and while the transfer hasn’t exactly gone according to the plan for the player and the German side, there are no qualms about the winger’s talents and potential. He is only 22 and has a lot of time to revive his career.

Chelsea are keen to bring Borussia Dortmund speedster Karim Adeyemi to Stamford Bridge.

Thus, Chelsea’s interest in Adeyemi makes complete sense. Having struggled for creativity and goals in the 2023/24 campaign, it seems the Blues are aiming to improve their attacking options by eyeing a move for the Dortmund man. Primarily a left-winger, the ex-RB Salzburg star can play off the right and through the middle with utmost comfort. Such flexibility would make him a fantastic fit in Maresca’s system at Stamford Bridge, where the youngster will get a platform to rub shoulders with the best talents and showcase his skill set in arguably the world’s best league.

Given he has a contract until 2027, it is surprising that Dortmund are ready to part ways with Adeyemi for a paltry €30 million. Nonetheless, we should do our best to sign the Munchen-born speedster as he has the qualities to massively enhance Maresca’s attacking ranks next season.
