Chelsea adopt a new stance after another failed attempt at landing ‘humble and hardworking’ striker

Chelsea set to trust existing forwards following one more rejected offer

Chelsea have made no secret of their desire to sign a striker with Romelu Lukaku’s future at the club under severe scrutiny. The Belgian international is very likely to be sold ahead of the new season, thereby linking the Blues to the likes of Victor Osimhen and Samu Omorodion in recent months.

While they were priced out for a transfer for Osimhen very early on, the west Londoners did approach Atletico Madrid to attempt Omorodion’s signing after his impressive spell on loan at Deportivo Alaves last season. Simeone called the striker ‘humble and hardworking’ in an interview last season.

TeamTALK has reported that Los Rojiblancos have rejected an official bid worth £42 million from Chelsea for Omorodion with the 20-year-old expected to be in Diego Simeone’s plans at Atletico Madrid next season.

Todd Boehly has decided that he will adopt a strict policy regarding his spending and will not better his bid for Omorodion, thus implying that Chelsea’s pursuit of the Spanish marksman has all but ended prematurely.

It has been claimed by TeamTALK that Chelsea have made a potentially season-defining decision to skip on a striker’s signing, at least this summer, as they believe their existing options will suffice Enzo Maresca’s tactical setup.

Nicolas Jackson stepped up in the latter part of last season and it is fair to say that in the overall context, the former Villarreal ace had a good year despite an inconsistent run of form earlier in the campaign. Jackson’s best performance in a Chelsea shirt saw him bag a hat-trick in an away win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino reaped the results of his trust in Jackson and Maresca will hope that the 23-year-old can carry his goal-scoring touch from the end of last season into 2024/25.

Christopher Nkunku at Chelsea

Marc Guiu is the latest acquisition in a young Chelsea squad following his £5 million transfer from Barcelona some days ago. The youngster showed promise in his early days in Catalonia and there is every reason to believe that he would prove to be a reliable understudy to Nicolas Jackson as the centre forward.

The biggest impetus, however, will be on Christopher Nkunku as far as Chelsea’s attacking players are concerned. He has shown glimpses of his quality whenever he has been on the pitch but regrettably, the majority of his maiden year at Stamford Bridge was plagued with injuries. If he can fire on all guns blazing, Chelsea will see the back of their goal-scoring woes.

More Chelsea News

Although Chelsea’s stance on recruiting a striker is questionable after the kind of inconsistencies they faced last season, there is also good enough reason to be excited to see how their existing players perform after their emphatic end to 2023/24.
