Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea
According to Daily Mail, Conor Gallagher‘s England teammate, Kieran Trippier, is attempting to convince him to leave Chelsea and join Atletico Madrid in the summer. Along with Atletico, Premier League rivals Tottenham are keeping tabs on the midfielder.
The Spanish club is seeking help from the former player to sign the Chelsea star in the summer. Trippier has a good relationship with Gallagher, and both of them also shared the dressing room for the England national team in Euro 2024. The 24-year-old player has captained the Chelsea squad several times in the absence of Captain Reece James and vice-captain Ben Chilwell.
Gallagher signed his professional contract with Chelsea in 2022, and he has scored ten goals and provided ten assists for the club in 85 appearances for the Blues in his two-year journey. He had a decent spell in the club under Mauricio Pochettino in the last campaign. The Argentine manager had immense trust in the player and gave him more playtime at Stamford Bridge. He contributed seven goals and nine assists in 50 games for the West London club under Pochettino.
“I think I’ve come a long way this season. I give a lot of credit to Pochettino and for what he’s done for me. He gave me responsibility and trust at Chelsea and, I think like I said, it puts me in a better position to be a bigger part of the squad for this tournament. I’m going to do everything I can to help the team as much as possible.”

But Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, has no intention of adding the English midfielder to his new squad. Gallagher has entered into his final 12 months with the club and Chelsea would ask for a decent amount for Gallagher’s service.
Atletico to sign Gallagher
The Spanish club are keen on signing the midfielder from Chelsea in the summer. Atletico’s manager, Diego Simeone, has always had faith in the youngsters, and he also proved that with his past signings. Trippier spent three seasons at the Metropolitano Stadium, helping Atletico win La Liga in 2021 before joining Premier League club Newcastle United in 2022.
The Spanish side are currently using their former player as an agent to bag Gallagher in the summer. It will be hard for Gallagher to bid adieu to his boyhood club, but the young midfielder will only get less playtime in the West London club after they have signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester. Chelsea manager would use Dewsbury-Hall and Enzo Fernandez as the primary midfield options for the club in the upcoming season. Chelsea are also looking forward to gaining financial benefits by selling Gallagher in the summer.
