Chelsea has received a significant boost in their pursuit of Jhon Duran as Ben Jacobs reveals that Unai Emery isn’t counting on the 20-year-old striker for next season and could allow him to leave Aston Villa in the summer window.
Chelsea could push to sign Duran, as they are currently in active talks with the player’s camp. The feeling is that he seems to be an ideal striker who can provide healthy competition to Nicolas Jackson for the No. 9 spot.
Duran didn’t enjoy a productive season as he was barely used by Emery, with Ollie Watkins being the preferred choice of the former Villarreal manager. Given the limited minutes on the pitch, the Colombian striker could be open to leaving Villa if Chelsea continues to push for his signing.
They have also been handed a big jump for his signing, as Emery isn’t very keen on keeping him and won’t mind if he leaves in the summer window. Speaking to GiveMeSport, he further commented:
“But it’s not just the player that would like the move. Unai Emery doesn’t see Duran as part of his plans, which is another crucial part of the jigsaw, and Chelsea will look to capitalise on that in, at the time of talking, ongoing talks to try and get a lower price.”
This gives the Blues even more optimism in their pursuit of Jhon Duran, and they wouldn’t want to miss out on signing him. Chelsea has identified many talented players, and Duran could prove to be one of them if given proper minutes on the pitch. However, it’s essential to consider several factors before signing another young player, especially since the club already has a young center-forward.
Balancing the squad’s experience and youth is crucial. Chelsea must ensure that signing Duran won’t hinder the development of their existing players. Additionally, they need to assess whether he can adapt quickly to Enzo Maresca’s system. While the potential is there, careful consideration and strategic planning are necessary to make the most of Duran’s talent without disrupting the team’s dynamics.
Some of Chelsea’s recruitment process has been questionable due to their focus on young talent, and it appears they are once again heading down the same path with their pursuit of Jhon Duran. At just 20 years old, Duran isn’t Premier League-proven, having played only a few matches last season. However, what stands out about him is his ball-striking quality, consistently finding the back of the net from tight angles.
Signing Duran could either be a masterstroke or a gamble. His potential is undeniable, but his lack of experience in the Premier League is a concern. Chelsea must weigh the risks and benefits carefully. If given the proper development and opportunities, Duran could thrive and become a valuable asset. However, the club must also consider how this move aligns with their overall strategy and whether it addresses their immediate needs or adds to their long-term plans.
