Chelsea land Adarabioyo in astute summer business

Premier League giants Chelsea FC have already secured their first signing of the summer as the Blues bring highly-rated Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo to West London in a free transfer. This move will go down as one of the most astute businesses conducted by the Blues this summer.

Signing a player of Tosin Adarabioyo‘s ability on a transfer that amounts to zero transfer cost speaks volumes about the behind-the-scenes work that the officials at Stamford Bridge are engaged in, as they signed one of the better centre-backs in the Premier League last season.

Tosin Adarabioyo has grown in abundance since his move to Fulham, and many forget that he is a Manchester City graduate, having represented the Light Blues throughout his upbringing. While his connection to the Blue Side of Manchester might not be as concrete as it used to be, it definitely helped Chelsea secure his services.

Before giving his nod to Chelsea, two former Manchester City players convinced the 26-year-old to choose Stamford Bridge as his next destination over other potential suitors.

The player had been subject to links with the likes of Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur in the lead-up to his Chelsea transfer, and the 26-year-old admitted speaking to Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling before sealing his Chelsea transfer. Tosin, in an interview following his transfer to Chelsea, said:

“I spent two or three years with Raz and Willy [Caballero], and most of my youth journey with Cole.”

“Before confirming the move, I gave Raz and Cole a call, and they had nothing but positive things to say about the club and the project and how excited they were that I was coming to the club.”

There will be massive expectations from Tosin Adarabioyo as he moves to the better side of London. It is now about whether he can replicate his performances at the Bridge and help the club reach new heights.
