Serie A giants identify Chelsea outcast as perfect Oliver Giroud replacement
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan have expressed interest in signing Chelsea outcast striker Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on national duty for Belgium in Euro 2024. The 31-year-old had a successful season on loan at AS Roma, scoring 21 goals across all competitions.
Chelsea have no plans to retain Lukaku and are inclined towards selling the forward permanently rather than loaning him out again. Over the past two seasons, the former Everton striker has been loaned to Inter Milan and Roma.
Lukaku is open to leaving Chelsea this summer, and Milan are keen on acquiring the centre-forward. Milan need a striker for the next season following the departure of Olivier Giroud, who has joined Major League Soccer club LAFC. They believe Lukaku could be an ideal replacement for the former Chelsea striker.
The main factor behind Lukaku’s potential move is whether Milan will be willing to meet his £37 million price tag. Roma showed no intention of meeting this asking price, which has been a significant hurdle for Chelsea in permanently parting ways with Lukaku. Chelsea are prepared to sell Lukaku without hesitation if a club meets their valuation.
A move to Milan could be controversial for Lukaku, given his history with Inter Milan, where he won the Scudetto. However, having already played for another Serie A team, Lukaku is focused on securing a long-term move away from Chelsea.
