Romano confirms Chelsea don’t want to sell £52m star who hardly played last season

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea don’t plan to sell Christopher Nkunku

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea have no intention to sell Christopher Nkunku this summer amid rumours of an exit. Nkunku is set to be an integral part of the squad under Enzo Maresca next season.

Nkunku joined Chelsea last summer for a fee worth £52m, but his season was already over before it started after he suffered a knee injury and had to undergo surgery, which kept him out until last December. The forward returned to action only to suffer injury setbacks.

The former RB Leipzig forward endured an injury-ridden season and couldn’t contribute enough on the pitch. Nkunku will hope to remain fit after he was not called up for the France squad ahead of Euro 2024, which gives him enough time to improve his fitness.

He will be an important player next season and should be fit to start every game. We cannot let Nkunku continue to be injury-prone because if his injuries persist, then the Blues may have to make a tough call on his future.

He is the type of player who brings experience and composure to the game; his addition would have made a big difference last season had he remained fit for the entirety of the last campaign.

Next term will be big as we will play under a new manager, and fans will have high expectations from every player, knowing they have played a full season and should be equipped to deliver their utmost performance. More will be expected from seasoned stars such as Nkunku and Raheem Sterling.
