As reported by Football London, David Datro Fofana faces an uncertain future at Chelsea. Ever since the Ivorian forward arrived at Stamford Bridge he has struggled to make a difference for the Blues. He’s been on two different loan spells, once with Union Berlin and then with Burnley to finish the season. This season he made 32 appearances recording six goals and two assists.
Bobby Vincent says that sources close to Fofana have not given anything up about the future of the forward. Here’s what the journo had to say about what’ll happen with Fofana from this point forward. (h/t Football London)
“As for Datro Fofana, sources close to the player are not giving much away at all at the moment in terms of his future. It may well be the case of ‘see how pre-season goes and assess from there.”
If Fofana can put up some decent performances this pre-season then Chelsea could be prompted to give him more of a chance next season. The team is anyway in need of a more reliable number nine so Fofana has the perfect opportunity to save himself.
It has been a tough time for the forward during his first season at Chelsea. His output left a lot to be desired but we have to consider the fact that Fofana has had to go through a lot of changes in scenery during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea should be giving Fofana some real minutes this summer to see how he fares in the Premier League. With some minutes the Ivorian forward might surprise everyone.
