Michael Olise saga ends with Chelsea left reeling on the sidelines once again
As per David Ornstein, Michael Olise has decided to join Bayern Munich, ending Chelsea’s interest in him amid long-term links with the Blues. Chelsea made Olise their priority signing, but they have abandoned the race to sign him.
The Blues were convinced they would be able to pull off the signing of Olise, but things have taken a u-turn, and they are now not interested anymore. However, the reason has been the 22-year-old’s £60 million release clause, which could be a problem for the club, and he was additionally demanding a high salary.
Last season, the Blues were in a similar situation, but it appeared they had signed him for a fee in the region of £35 million last summer, thinking they had activated his release clause only for the deal to collapse and Olise to sign a new deal.
But this time, the Blues took no action and promptly withdrew from the race, believing that his present clause was becoming untenable. The Frenchman, who scored 10 goals in 19 Premier League games last season, has been called up for the Olympics.
Signing Olise had never made sense when we already had the likes of Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke, and now the Blues are closing in on the signing of Estevao Willian, which provides the Blues with three options on the right wing.
In addition, considering the demands of other players, his excessive salary demands undoubtedly upset the Blues’ financial records. You cannot make transactions that will put the team in financial jeopardy. Giving up on such agreements is quite acceptable. Not that it’s the same, but there’s nothing wrong with turning down a deal if it doesn’t make sense financially for your team. Not every target can be signed.
We are not sure what the exact amount is, but if you were to pay Olise £250,000 a week, for instance, another player’s agent would say, “Mate, my client is the star of that team and deserves more than Olise is paid.” That’s the initial source of the issue. It’s much more difficult to take a chance because of the possibilities on the right, which will get even better the next season.
